Response is Shenandoah County's only agency dedicated to assisting those affected by sexual and domestic violence. Begun in 1980 as a grassroots effort to fill a need in our community, Response has grown over the years until we now have a 20-bed shelter for women and children, and extensive supportive services for survivors, both in- and out-of-shelter.
Response advocates are here to serve men, women, and children who are survivors of intimate partner and domestic violence; this includes victims of physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and financial abuse.
We are funded by several grants at the federal, state, and local levels and from private foundations. We also receive contributions from individuals, businesses, the faith-based community and civic organizations.
It is the philosophy of Response, Inc. that age, race, color, religion, income, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, sex, national origin, disability, or veteran status are not factors in determining eligibility for services. It is the intention of Response, Inc. that its programs be implemented in a safe, non-abusive manner supporting a practice of trauma-informed and client-defined advocacy.
