What Does "Consent" Really Mean?
We hear a lot these days about "consent" - in fact the theme for 2019 Sexual Assault Awareness Month is "I Ask", which is all about getting consent. So what exactly is it and how do we go about getting it? We know that in general, "consent" means getting permission or agreement to do something. In the context we are talking about, it means being on the same page as far as sexual activities are concerned. But what does that really look like in real life?
For starters, consent should be:
-
Freely Given
-
Reversible
-
Informed
-
Enthusiastic
-
Specific
